On 14th February 2014 the Department held a party to celebrate the retirement of Norman Newboult, who has played a key role in the Department, serving for 33 years.

Norman joined the Department in March 1981, as an electronics technician under Les Price, having previously trained in radar maintenance. In recent years he has been dealing with all our building services and has been heavily involved in sorting out the faults that appear after every refurbishment, of which there have been many since 1997 when the Sanger Building was completed. Norman has always come up with a simple and effective solution, is very inventive and never panics in a crisis: even when water is pouring through the ceiling. Norman's home life keeps him very busy and includes attending 1940's events, restoring old juke boxes, gardening and building things. The Department wishes him well in his retirement and welcomes Aaron Hughes who has been shadowing Norman for several weeks to learn his way around.
