The Department's buildings are currently open for wet laboratory work only. We have carried out a comprehensive COVID-19 risk assessment process and have introduced a number of new measures to ensure the safety of our staff, including reduced building occupancy, strict social distancing, 'family'-based working, and increased cleaning and hygiene regimes. The genome of the centipede has been published in PLOS Biology.

 

An international team of more than 100 researchers (including Jenny Barna) has published the genome of the centipede Strigamia maritima. The paper "The First Myriapod Genome Sequence Reveals Conservative Arthropod Gene Content and Genome Organisation in the Centipede Strigamia maritima" is the cover story in PLOS Biology, which also includes a commentary. Michael Akam (Zoology) and Frank Jiggins (Genetics) comment in the main University news story.
