#LGBTSTEMday rainbow cupcakes

On Thursday 5th July, the Department joined forces with scientific organisations across the globe to celebrate the first international day of LGBTQ+ people in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

As an international event, 5th July was selected as this date can be written as "507", which in nanometres is the wavelength of the colour green featured in the rainbow flag and is representative of nature. In the US, the date is written as "705", which is the wavelength of the colour red, representing life.

In our Department, we had a fantastic day filled with discussions, lots of information, and a huge amount of cake! Thank you to everyone who came along to help us celebrate diversity, openness and inclusivity within the Department and across STEM!

The Department would like to thank Dr Dee Scadden and Stephanie Low for their tremendous baking efforts, and the Equality and Diversity Committee for organising such a fun and well-attended event.
