Equality and Diversity in the Department

The Department has successfully competed for an Athena SWAN Bronze Award.

We are delighted to announce that our recent submission for a Bronze Athena SWAN award was successful. Overall, the success rate for Bronze Awards was 58% in the recent round, which highlights how high the targets were to attain this award.

This remarkable achievement was led by Dr Dee Scadden, who worked tirelessly on our recent submission and to whom go the plaudits and our thanks. Dee was ably assisted by our wonderful Equality and Diversity Committee, whose collegiate and selfless efforts also made a huge contribution.

The Athena SWAN charter was initially created to recognise and celebrate good practice in the recruitment, retention and promotion of women in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine). Since May 2015, the charter was expanded to work undertaken in the arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBHL), and also in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students.
