Department of Biochemistry

Professor Andrew Grace.

Congratulations to Dr Andrew Grace who has been given the title of Honorary Professor of Experimental Cardiology.

Honorary Professorships are one of the most prestigious honours in the gift of the University and mark academic contribution and rare distinction.

Many will know of Andrew's long association with our Department and his ground-breaking studies in experimental cardiology, most notably his work on the genetics and mechanisms underlying cardiac arrythmias, which he directs concurrently with a daunting clinical workload as a celebrated senior consultant at the Royal Papworth Hospital.

His latest work includes addressing the fundamental causes of atrial fibrillation through the AcQMap device. The use of this approach has allowed medical teams to visualise complex arrhythmia for the first time, leading to more accurate, bespoke treatments.

On news of his new title, Andrew said: "I am deeply grateful to be recognised in this way. The timing is also ideal following the relocation of the [Royal Papworth] hospital to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus last year."

"The proximity of truly outstanding care from the clinical teams now being delivered in a world-leading scientific ecosystem is exciting. Continuing engagement between the hospital and the University through the soon-to-be completed [Cambridge Heart and Lung Research Institute] will undoubtedly bring further dividends."
