Very well done to Oscar Despard who led his Christ's College team to victory in the University Challenge final on Monday night. In a nail-biting contest that came down to the last question, his team beat the University of Warwick by just five points. It was a childhood dream for Oscar to take part in the long-running show and the trophy was presented to him by Sir Ian McKellen at the Cambridge ADC Theatre.
Oscar was a Part I and Part II student with us, graduating last year. He is now doing a PhD at the LMB on proteostasis using cryo-electron tomography in Juliette Fedry’s group. Oscar gave an interview to the LMB about his experiences on the show. He is from Dublin and his achievement received extensive coverage in the Irish press, including the Irish Times and the Irish Independent.
