Congratulations to Hollfelder-Group member, Daniel Eggerichs, who will be awarded the Prize for Bioconversion of Renewable Resources from the German Chemical Society (GDCh) for his PhD thesis at Ruhr University Bochum. The award will be presented in September at the GDCh Science Forum Chemistry (SFC).
Daniel’s doctoral dissertation investigated the use of lignin monomers (natural aromatics from plants) as a sustainable resource for the production of bioplastics. Using the bacterium Rhodococcus jostii RHA1, he succeeded for the first time in harnessing the enzymes involved as biocatalysts for industrial applications.
Daniel said: ‘I am honoured to receive the award for the bioconversion of renewable resources for my dissertation and would like to thank the GDCh for their generous support of my research!’
The prize was established at the GDCh in 2021 by GDCh member Prof. Dr. em. Manfred Schneider. The award is endowed with 2,000 euros and is given to young doctoral candidates who completed their doctorates no more than two years ago.
