The Department's buildings are currently open for wet laboratory work only. We have carried out a comprehensive COVID-19 risk assessment process and have introduced a number of new measures to ensure the safety of our staff, including reduced building occupancy, strict social distancing, 'family'-based working, and increased cleaning and hygiene regimes. All staff who can work remotely will do so for the foreseeable future. Please continue to contact us by email until further notice.

Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Department has conducted a comprehensive COVID-19 risk assessment process and has introduced a number of new measures to ensure the safety of our staff, including reduced building occupancy, strict social distancing, 'family'-based working, and increased cleaning and hygiene regimes. In order to accommodate these new arrangements, our facilities will be operating revised services for the foreseeable future.

If you have any questions/queries, please contact the appropriate Facility Manager directly.

BioPath Stores

BioPath Stores is open 9am-4pm, Monday-Friday. However, counter service is now by appointment only.

For Departmental users: Biochemistry Department staff from both buildings should complete the Biochemistry online purchase order request form as normal, but should include a suitable phone number on which they can be contacted. Requests for Stores stock must always be on a separate request form from external order requests. When your order is ready, you will be called with a collection appointment time.

For external users: Customers from other departments who wish to collect goods from BioPath Stores must email their Purchase Order, or if from Pathology or PDN their request list, to the Stores Team. These must include the correct BioPath Stores catalogue numbers (which can be found in the online inventory), quantities and charging information, plus a suitable contact phone number. When your order/request is ready, you will be called with a collection appointment time.

DNA sequencing

The DNA Sequencing Facility is operating with reduced hours (9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday) due to a reduction in staff occupancy to facilitate social distancing and to accommodate additional cleaning regimes at the start and end of each day. Turnaround times may therefore be slower than normal.

For Sanger Building users: There will be no direct access to the Facility for users. Samples and forms must be left in the racks outside the Facility door or in the DNA Sequencing pigeonhole in the atrium.

For Hopkins Building users: Samples and forms may be left at BioPath Stores, who will then deliver these to the Facility.

For external users: The Sanger Building reception has now reopened. Please leave your samples and forms in the DNA Sequencing basket provided in reception. Alternatively, samples may be sent by UMS or Royal Mail.

For RNA or other sensitive samples: Please contact the DNA Sequencing Facility by phone to arrange sample drop-off in advance.

For any sequencing-related questions or other enquiries, please email the Facility to receive the quickest response.

Proteomics

The Cambridge Centre for Proteomics is operating a normal service. However, the Facility will shortly be relocating from the Milner Therapeutics Institute in the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre to the Department of Pharmacology.

The Facility is due to physically move the week commencing Monday 16 November and will be packing equipment in the laboratory from Monday 9 November. Therefore, the Facility is unable to accept new samples for analysis from 14:30 on Thursday 5 November.

Following the move, new samples will be accepted from Thursday 26 November. A new procedure for dropping off samples will be confirmed in due course.

Please do not send samples to the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre after Thursday 5 November as there will be no one on site to collect them. As a reminder, samples delivered in person must be sealed inside a clean plastic bag or they will not be accepted.

The new address for the Facility will be:

Cambridge Centre for Proteomics,
Department of Pharmacology,
University of Cambridge,
Tennis Court Road,
Cambridge,
CB2 1PD.
