Research Area/Interests:

My area of interest within the BBSRC Doctoral Training Programme is in Bioenergy and Industrial Biotechnology. The work of my Phd will focus on the purple non-sulfur bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris, a metabolically diverse microorganism with the potential to be used for the commercial production of hydrogen. It has been shown to successfully produce hydrogen when grown on waste glycerol from biodiesel production, and my interest lies in improving hydrogen production under these and other conditions.
